Style Drop: Wide Leg Trousers

Hey guys! Apologies for the late post – it has been quite a crazy week but I have gathered up enough content so hopefully I will be back on target with the posts! As I said in my reflections post, I promised to post more and with that, let me begin the first post of 2018 with a style drop!

As you may have seen on Raafiahm’s instagram post on campus outfits, I am a massive fan of palazzo pants and just baggy clothes in general. I find it the perfect way of hiding the shape of my figure while remaining comfortable and cool, especially during the summer season. Over the summer last year, I purchased these amazing striped, wide leg trousers that could be fastened with a bow and kept both casual and formal. If you’re ever purchasing striped clothing, the golden rule is to always keep it vertical if you wish to elongate your look.

Personally, I prefer trousers which are plain but in this case the stripes and bow won me over because of how wide the fit of the leg is. I purchased my trousers at a store called New Look and took advantage of the student discount, so it wasn’t too pricey. However, there are plenty of alternative shops from which you can purchase the trousers in an assortment of colours or patterns. If you want the trousers to be the star of the look, then be sure to keep it plain elsewhere, for example wearing a plain t-shirt or shirt with minimal accessories. Alternatively, if you want to make this a fancy dinner or girls night out look, then you can add chunky necklaces to the piece to give it a bit of a pop.

I am very insecure about my hips, so I prefer wearing a piece like this as the trousers tend to hide the shape a bit as opposed to jeans. In fact, some people actually thought that this was a skirt when I first purchased them but I pointed out the fact that it is trousers and they were sold. Wide leg trousers, palazzos and culottes are all the rage over the summer period, so beat the warm weather by styling yourself with ease and not constraining your legs to skinny jeans. In these images, I styled my look with a formal white shirt (something I wore to work) and just rolled up the sleeves. Additionally, I wore them with tassel sandals, a floppy hat (which was a steal on sale!) and a coordinating scarf.
